Description

Gracie Cemetery lies in northeast Loup County on land that is part of the Gracie Creek Ranch, recorded locally as about seven miles north of Highway 96 on Gracie Creek Avenue. No mapped coordinate has been established for it, so anyone planning a visit should ask locally for directions and permission.

The ground was given for a cemetery in 1910 by Robert T. Williams, who with his wife ran the first store and post office at Gracie and had started that post office in 1905. An older county compilation also records a small cemetery of ten or twelve very old and largely unmarked graves on Grace Flats in the extreme northeast of the county, under the name Calamus Cemetery; the two accounts may well describe the same ground.

Around fifteen memorials have been recorded, which is a record of what has been photographed and indexed rather than a count of everyone buried there. Local accounts give about a dozen interments.

For burial records or plot enquiries, contact the Loup County Historical Society in Taylor, or the Loup County Clerk in Taylor. Ownership can also be confirmed through the Nebraska Statewide Cemetery Registry at the State Historical Society.
