Dana College closed in 2010 and no longer operates. The Lutheran liberal arts college on the hill above Blair began in 1896 as a merger of Trinity Seminary and Blair College and took the name Dana, a poetic form of Denmark, in 1902. Mounting deficits led to a sale in 2010, but the accrediting body refused to transfer accreditation to the new owners and the college shut instead. Midland University leased the campus from 2013 and gave it up in 2016; Grace University planned to move there in 2018 and folded first. The nonprofit Angels' Share bought the property, and the old residence halls have since been converted into apartments and housing for young adults aging out of foster care.
