Arthur Village Office

Arthur Village Office is the municipal office for Arthur, Nebraska. Arthur is the county seat of Arthur County, population 128, and the village office receives mail at PO Box 232, Arthur, NE 69121. The community was founded in 1913 expressly to serve as the county seat and incorporated as a village in 1944; it is named for President Chester A. Arthur. Arthur County, organised in 1913, was among the last Nebraska counties to organise and remains one of the least populous counties in the United States. The First Arthur County Courthouse and Jail, built in 1914 and 1915, is described as the smallest courthouse ever built in the United States; it and the 1928 Pilgrim Holiness Church, whose walls are baled hay finished in stucco, are maintained by the Arthur County Historical Society. Arthur Municipal Airport operates nearby. The village sits in the Nebraska Sandhills on Highway 61, in ranching country with almost no cropland.
