Ace Hardware and Home at 615 Dearborn Street in Wayne opened in 2020 in the former Shopko building, 28,000 square feet that had stood empty since the chain’s 2019 bankruptcy, after a local investor group bought it. Owner Steve LeGrand, who also owns the Ace at Blair, held a public meeting first to ask the town what it wanted stocked, and the answer shaped the store: as he put it, the people here didn’t want a hardware store, they wanted a community store. That is why the range runs to clothing, hair care and electronics alongside lumber, tools and paint. Brands include Traeger, YETI, Big Green Egg, Briggs and Stratton, Solo Stove and Ooni.
