About Golden
Golden is a ghost town in northeastern Burt County on the old stage road between Tekamah and Decatur, about 6 miles south of Decatur. Its exact site is not mapped. The Golden Spring Cemetery keeps the name.
History
The settlement took its name from Golden Spring, "noted for the purity of its waters," on F. E. Lange's farm; Lange said the spring was named in the summer of 1857, when a town called Central Bluffs was planned there. Henry Marsh opened the Golden Spring post office on April 15, 1875, and it was a stop on the Tekamah–Decatur stage line. The population was 32 in 1880.
The post office was renamed Golden on May 4, 1894, and closed on August 1, 1901.
