The Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel at 302 South 36th Street in Omaha occupies the former Blackstone Hotel, built in 1916 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. After serving as offices from 1984, the building reopened as the Kimpton Cottonwood in November 2020 following a $75 million restoration.
The Blackstone is one of the claimed birthplaces of the Reuben sandwich, linked to a 1920s poker group called The Committee that hotel owner Charles Schimmel hosted and that included grocer Reuben Kulakofsky; the hotel itself calls the story a legend. The hotel's dining spots are The Committee Chophouse steakhouse, The Orleans Room for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, Petite Orleans coffee shop, the Fontenelle Tea Room and The Cottonwood Room bar.
