The Niobrara Valley Amateur Radio Club, started in September 2026, brings together people from Ainsworth and other communities along the Niobrara Valley and Highway 20, including Bassett, Long Pine, Newport, Johnstown, Springview and Burwell, across Brown, Rock, Keya Paha, Cherry and Custer counties. Amateur radio is its starting point, but members don't need to be licensed ham operators. Computers, programming, electronics, Raspberry Pi and Arduino projects, 3D projects, drones, model planes, robotics, weather, communications and equipment repair all fit. All ages and experience levels are welcome, and the club organizes through a public Facebook group.
