Battle Creek Heritage Park, whose motto is “where our history matters,” is a local history park in Battle Creek, Nebraska. A brick history walk winds past signs about Battle Creek’s past, a large bell, a teepee and flags, and it is an official WonderNebraska site. The park includes the Heritage Museum and the 1869 Skala Timber House with its Nebraska State Historical Society marker.
One exhibit covers the Pawnee earth lodge and a Three Sisters garden of maize, beans and squash planted together, the way Pawnee women farmed the one-acre gardens around their villages. Businesses and families can sponsor a History Walk stand for $500.
The park celebrates and preserves Battle Creek’s history from the early settlers to the 1930s through stories, historical treasures and native plantings. Visitors can tour the Skala Cabin, see artifacts in the Heritage Museum, read the History Walk stands, learn about the Three Sisters Garden, play in the tepee and enjoy the native Nebraska plants. Restrooms are at the concession stand; follow the road east. Donations can be made by QR code on the welcome sign or in the donation box in the Heritage Museum.
