This History Nebraska marker stands on US 6 (the Grand Army of the Republic Highway) about a mile northeast of Atlanta, near the site of Camp Atlanta. The camp, built in 1943 with about 70 buildings in three compounds for 3,000 prisoners, held German soldiers captured in North Africa and Italy, many of whom worked on area farms, until it closed in 1945–46. Concrete slabs, the water tower and two chimneys remain on private land.
