The North Platte Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 1, 2020, takes in downtown North Platte from Front Street to 4th Street between Vine and Chestnut, and 7th to 9th Streets between Vine and Dewey. These blocks grew up across from the Union Pacific depot, where volunteers ran the North Platte Canteen from 1941 to 1946.
