About 150 local stockholders built the Alma City Auditorium and Sale Barn at 614 Main St., Alma, in 1922–23. The brick auditorium, with balcony seating on three sides, a stage and pressed-tin ceilings, hosted traveling shows, concerts, school plays, dances, roller skating and basketball, and the first livestock sale in the barn wing was held on October 24, 1923. The city bought the building in 1943. It was listed on the National Register in 2014 and renovated in 2025–26 with a new roof, systems and marquee. The city rents it, with the adjoining Johnson Center banquet room, for events; call City Hall.
