The Red Cloud Opera House, 413 N. Webster St. in Red Cloud, was built in 1885; the young Willa Cather saw touring shows here. The Morhart family, who ran the hardware store on the ground floor, donated the building, and a $1.7 million restoration was finished in 2003. It is part of the National Willa Cather Center and hosts performances, lectures and exhibits. It was listed on the National Register in 1982.
