This Nebraska historical marker stands on US 275 about 4 miles northwest of West Point, between West Point and Beemer. It marks DeWitt, laid out in 1857 and the first permanent settlement in Cuming County, which lost the county seat to West Point 12 votes to 7 in 1858. Its post office ran from 1858 to 1871.
