Blackshirt Feeders is a large-scale cattle feedyard on ranchland in western Dundy County, a few miles outside Haigler, Nebraska. The operation began taking cattle in September 2024 with an initial capacity of about 50,000 head and is being built out toward a planned 150,000 head over several years, which would make it one of the largest cattle feedyards in the country. Pens are built on roller-compacted concrete rather than bare dirt, a design intended to reduce dust, flies and odor, and the operation is designed to be water-neutral, drawing on retired area irrigation wells. At full build-out Blackshirt Feeders is expected to employ around 130 people, a major economic driver for this corner of Nebraska.
