La Casa Pizzaria at 4432 Leavenworth St. was opened on June 8, 1953, by Sicilian immigrants Joe and Nellie Patane and is still run by their descendants. It is known for Omaha-style pizza: a thin, biscuit-like crust made without yeast, topped with Romano cheese and hamburger and cut into rectangles. Its "Peppi" neon sign, built in 1957, has been an Omaha Landmark since 2002. La Casa opened one of Omaha's first carry-out pizza shops in 1965, appeared in the film Downsizing and has other locations at 84th and Grover and at 168th and Pacific.
The Leavenworth restaurant is open Tuesday through Thursday 11 a.m.–9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m. and Sunday 4–9 p.m.; closed Monday. Order online for carryout through its website, or call (402) 556-6464. Catering delivery is available Tuesday through Friday with 24 hours' notice.
