Lee’s Chicken

Lee's Chicken is a fried-chicken restaurant at 1940 W. Van Dorn St., at Coddington Avenue near Pioneers Park. The building opened in 1935 as Al's Place, the clubhouse stop for the new Pioneers Park golf course, and became Lee's in 1945 under Lee and Alice Franks, who brought her chicken recipe from Louisiana. Ozzie and Jan Wilcoxen bought it around 1970. A rooster statue known as Pioneer Pete stands over the parking lot.
