Shirley's Diner is a 1950s- and '60s-themed diner at 13838 R Plaza in southwest Omaha, near Millard Avenue and Q Street, that has served Omaha for more than three decades. Owners Denise and Doug Fackler were musicians before buying the diner around 1991, and photos and memorabilia from their music careers hang on the walls alongside old license plates and celebrity photos; booths are themed around Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis Presley and the Beatles, and the couple sometimes performs there.
Chicken fried steak with peppery cream gravy is the most popular dish. The menu also features colossal and super colossal onion rings, the Reuben, chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, a Monterey omelette, buttermilk pancakes, homemade pies and daily specials, with breakfast served all day.
