Mexitli, off 16th and Harney Streets in downtown Omaha, began as a small yellow food cart before opening as a restaurant, with Alberto Cardenas leading the kitchen. It makes its own tortillas colored red with beet juice and is known for birria tacos, enchiladas, steak and chorizo tacos and squash-blossom sopes. Its dessert bar, La Traga-zona, is next door.
