Lincoln Trinity UMC began as a mission appointment in South Lincoln, Nebraska on the Lincoln Circuit. In 1878, St. Paul's Quarterly Conference sent pastor A. L. Folden to start the work, and a small frame church was built at 12th & A Streets in 1880-81 for $1,260. The congregation became a separate charge in 1883 with 53 members, growing to 94 by 1887. By the 1890s, under Dr. D. W. C. Huntington, the congregation built a $17,000 church and grew to 447 members.
