Fort Cody Trading Post is a Western souvenir shop at 221 Halligan Dr. in North Platte. It sells cowboy gear, plush buffaloes, jackalope statues, toys and clothing for all ages, and it has a two-headed calf among its oddities.
The back of the building holds a small museum about Buffalo Bill Cody. Its centerpiece is Buffalo Bill’s Miniature Wild West Show, with more than 20,000 figures hand-carved in wood by Ernie and Virginia Palmquist. Many of the figures move, and a narrated show runs about five minutes every 30 minutes. Live music plays in the stockade on summer Thursdays.
Admission is free and it is open year-round. Summer hours (Memorial Day to Labor Day) are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Call (308) 532-8081 or visit its website for current hours.
