Description

Laurel Hill Cemetery stands at 21st and Polk Streets in south Omaha. It was begun in 1866 by Christian Sautter, on his own farm, and it is also recorded as Sautter's Cemetery and as the Old German Cemetery.

It passed to a lot-owners association in 1936. The ground runs to twelve and a half acres, including a potter's field, and many of the older stones are cut in German.

Around 7,948 memorials have been recorded, which is a record of what has been photographed and indexed rather than a count of everyone buried there.

For burial records or plot enquiries, contact the cemetery office, or the Douglas County Clerk in Omaha. Ownership can also be confirmed through the Nebraska Statewide Cemetery Registry at the State Historical Society.
