Description

Pleasant Hill Jewish Cemetery stands at 6412 North 42nd Street in Omaha. It is the oldest Jewish cemetery in Nebraska; the land was bought by the B'nai Israel Society in August 1871.

Three congregations hold ground here. Two of them, B'nai Shalom and B'nai Jacob, no longer exist. The third is Temple Israel, which keeps an older and a newer section, and because of that the cemetery is also recorded as Temple Israel Cemetery.

It is a different ground from the Pleasant Hill Cemetery on South 132nd Street in west Omaha.

Around 2,367 memorials have been recorded, which is a record of what has been photographed and indexed rather than a count of everyone buried there.

For burial records or plot enquiries, contact Temple Israel, or the Douglas County Clerk in Omaha. Ownership can also be confirmed through the Nebraska Statewide Cemetery Registry at the State Historical Society.
