The second of two burial grounds belonging to the Norfolk state hospital, opened in 1916 when the older ground was full. About 450 people are buried here. Around a dozen graves are marked.
It stands at the edge of the former hospital grounds in Norfolk, Madison County, beside Northeast Community College's agricultural complex, and is fenced. Benches and a memorial stone have been placed at one corner.
Burial records for the institution, covering 1888 to 1954, are held by History Nebraska, which has published an index giving name, county of residence, date of death, date of burial, and section and lot. It is the place to start for anyone tracing a person who died at the hospital.
