Description

Schwedt Cemetery lies five miles south of Pilger on Highway 15, then half a mile east on 835th Avenue and half a mile south on 574½ Avenue. It stands on the east side of the road, with the historic District 14 schoolhouse across from it. The county records place it in the north-east quarter of Section 35, Kingsburg Township.

The ground was established in 1878 and is also carried as the Schwedt Post Office Cemetery, the District 14 School Cemetery, and the Scherer or Schulz Cemetery. A number of those buried here died in the diphtheria epidemics that ran through this country between 1880 and 1886 and again between 1891 and 1896. Many of the graves are unmarked, or their stones can no longer be read.
