Mount Hope Cemetery lies a short way east of the centre of Valentine, on the south side of the town. It is the principal cemetery for the county seat and by a wide margin the largest burial ground in Cherry County.
There is a second Mount Hope Cemetery in this county, at Wood Lake, about seventeen miles to the south-east. The two are unconnected and are easily confused in indexes and record searches — check which one a record refers to before travelling.
Around 5,962 memorials have been recorded, which is a record of what has been photographed and indexed rather than a count of everyone buried there. The true number is higher.
For burial records or plot enquiries, contact the City of Valentine, or the Cherry County Clerk in Valentine. Ownership can also be confirmed through the Nebraska Statewide Cemetery Registry at the State Historical Society.
