Omadi Cemetery is what is left of Omadi, and the burial ground is the only part of the town above water.
Omadi was laid out in 1856 at the mouth of Omaha Creek and incorporated by the territorial legislature on the last day of 1857. At its height in 1857 and 1858 it had about four hundred people and forty houses, steamboat docks, sawmills, the first lumberyard on the upper Missouri and the first newspaper in this part of the territory. The river began cutting the bank away in 1858; the population was down to forty-six by 1860, and by 1865 every house was gone and the water covered the townsite. Omadi was one of ten towns laid out along this stretch of the Missouri in the county's first years; Dakota City is the only one of the ten that still stands.
Around 15 memorials have been recorded, which is a record of what has been photographed and indexed rather than a count of everyone buried there.
