Green Valley Cemetery lies southwest of Homer in the south of Dakota County, on Wigle Creek near what was the Johnson school house. It was formerly called Johnson's Cemetery.
Homer is where the county began. The first European settlement in Dakota County was a trading outpost called Fort Charles, in what is now the Blyberg area; the Missouri's shifting drove the settlement westward to the ground that became Homer.
Around 230 memorials have been recorded, which is a record of what has been photographed and indexed rather than a count of everyone buried there.
