Description

Cook Gravesite is a single recorded grave at Agate, in the south of Sioux County on the Niobrara.

James and Kate Cook bought the Agate Springs Ranch in 1887, and most of that land is now Agate Fossil Beds National Monument. The monument holds the Cook Collection — more than five hundred Plains Indian artefacts — and the Harold J. Cook Homestead, the Bone Cabin Complex, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

One burial has been indexed here and no further detail is published, so who lies in the grave is not stated. This is ranch and monument country; ask at the monument before going to look.

For burial records or plot enquiries, contact the Sioux County Clerk in Harrison. Ownership can also be confirmed through the Nebraska Statewide Cemetery Registry at the State Historical Society.
