The West Central REEC is the University of Nebraska's research farm for the twenty counties of west central Nebraska, at 402 West State Farm Road in North Platte, in Lincoln County. The main site runs about 1,800 acres, roughly 1,100 of it pasture and the rest dryland and irrigated crops, with faculty from eight departments and laboratories for agroecosystem entomology, irrigation water management, pesticide application technology and cropping systems. It also runs the Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory, a 12,800-acre working ranch in the Sandhills, a 1,280-acre water resources field laboratory near Brule, and the Henry J. Stumpf International Wheat Center.
