Fur Trade Days is held at Chadron on the second full weekend of July, Thursday through Sunday, and celebrates the buckskinners, traders and Native Americans of the fur trade era. The Rotary World Championship Buffalo Chip Throw runs on the 400 block of Main Street, and the Colter Run is named for the mountain man John Colter. A Buckskinners Primitive Camp runs all four days, alongside a Lions Club parade, a Native American dance demonstration, historical cemetery tours led by costumed interpreters and a bump and run at the fairgrounds. The Museum of the Fur Trade at Chadron supplies the historical backbone. The 51st runs July 8 to 11, 2027.
