Oregon Trail Days is held at Gering over four days in July and is billed as Nebraska’s longest continuously running celebration, established in 1921; 2026 was the 105th. It sits in the shadow of Scotts Bluff National Monument on the emigrant route the festival is named for. The four days carry a parade and a kiddie parade, a street dance, a car show, a chili cook-off, art and quilt shows, the Don Childs Memorial 5 Mile Run, a watermelon eating contest, mud volleyball, bands in the park and a carnival.
