Description

Pender Village Office is the municipal office for Pender, Nebraska, at 614 Main Street. Pender is the county seat of Thurston County, population 1,115. Founded April 1885 and named for Sir John Pender, the Scottish submarine-telegraph pioneer. Governed by a five-member village board. The village provides municipal utilities and offers an online utility payment portal. Pender was the subject of the 2016 US Supreme Court decision Nebraska v. Parker, which held unanimously that the disputed land lies within the boundaries of the Omaha Indian Reservation. Hometown of Maurice Pate, a founding figure of UNICEF.
