Tecumseh City Hall is the municipal office for Tecumseh, Nebraska, at 122 South 4th Street. Tecumseh is the county seat of Johnson County, population 1,694. Platted 1856 as Frances, renamed Tecumseh soon after, and designated county seat by the Territorial Legislature in February 1857. City Hall sits on the east side of the historic downtown square. City utilities of water, sewer and electric are overseen by a Board of Public Works that meets the first Monday of each month. The city handles building permits, dog and cat licensing, burn permits and property-maintenance complaints; law enforcement is provided by the Johnson County Sheriff. City-supported facilities include the public library, the Tecumseh Aquatic Center, the Community Building, a Handibus transit service and a municipal airport two miles north on Highway 50. The Tecumseh State Correctional Institution is just outside town. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
