Alma City Hall is the municipal office for Alma, Nebraska, at 614 Main Street. Alma is the county seat of Harlan County, population 1,043. Founded in the spring of 1871 by Union Pacific railroad workers from Cheyenne, Wyoming. City Hall houses the city clerk, city treasurer, city administrator, the council chambers and the city's service departments, and the city maintains an after-hours emergency utility line. Law enforcement is provided by the Harlan County Sheriff's Department rather than a city police force. Harlan County Reservoir, created by a dam completed in 1952, is a major regional recreation destination just outside town. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
