Chappell City Hall is the municipal office for Chappell, Nebraska, at 757 2nd Street. Chappell is the county seat of Deuel County, population 844, one of the few Nebraska municipalities in the Mountain Time Zone, at 3,691 feet elevation. Platted 1884 when railroad service arrived and named for Charles Henry Chappell, a railroad official. The City Council meets at City Hall at 5:00 on the first and third Mondays. The city runs its own electric and water utilities plus a street and sewer department and a superintendent of utilities, with an after-hours emergency line. Municipal amenities include a 9-hole golf course, swimming pool, public library, cemetery, and a recycling center and trash service. Hometown of Richard N. Cabela, co-founder of Cabela's, and longtime US Representative Virginia D. Smith.
