Schuyler City Hall is the municipal office for Schuyler, Nebraska, at 1103 B Street. Schuyler is the county seat of Colfax County, population 6,547. Founded 1870, originally Shell Creek Station. City government includes a City Administrator, City Clerk, Building Inspector, Police Department, Library, Parks and Recreation, Streets, Utilities and a Board of Public Works. Cargill's beef processing plant, opened 1968, is the largest employer with roughly 2,000 workers; others include Schuyler Community Schools, the local hospital and QC Supply. Schuyler was Nebraska's first cow town in 1870, where Texas cattle were loaded onto Union Pacific trains. The WPA-built Oak Ballroom of 1937, made from native oak, is on the National Register.
