David City City Hall is the municipal office for David City, Nebraska, at 490 E Street. David City is the county seat of Butler County, population 2,995. Established 1873 after residents sought a more central county seat than Savannah; named for Phoebe Miles, whose maiden name was Davids and who deeded a large tract for the townsite. The City Office oversees law enforcement, parks and recreation, streets, airport, recycling, municipal electric, water and sewer, and building and zoning. The Clerk-Treasurer handles permits, licenses, utility billing, records and the municipal code. Landmarks: the Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art, the Thorpe Opera House, the Butler County Courthouse and the Chauncey S. Taylor House. Notable natives: Joyce Hall, founder of Hallmark Cards; singer Ruth Etting; US Senator Roman Hruska. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
