Description

A WETLAND UNIT OF THE NORTH PLATTE NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

Lake Alice is a shallow reservoir and wetland unit within the North Platte National Wildlife Refuge complex, located in Scotts Bluff County a few miles northwest of Scottsbluff. Along with Lake Minatare and Winters Creek Lake, it is one of several Bureau of Reclamation reservoirs overlaid by the refuge, which was established in 1916 to preserve breeding and stopover habitat for native birds. Lake Alice attracts large numbers of migratory waterfowl during spring and fall migration, along with wading birds and marsh birds through the summer, making it a popular spot for birdwatching and wildlife photography. Portions of the lake are closed to public entry to protect nesting wildlife, while the remainder is open to fishing, hunting, and other public uses for much of the year.
