Runza is a Nebraska fast-food chain founded in Lincoln in 1949 by Sally Everett and her brother Alex Brening, who opened the first stand near Pioneers Park. It is known for the Runza sandwich, a baked bread pocket filled with seasoned beef, cabbage and onions rooted in Volga German cooking, and for pairing chili with cinnamon rolls. Still run by the Everett family from its Lincoln headquarters, the chain has more than 90 restaurants, most of them in Nebraska, with a mix of company-owned and franchised locations.
