Kolach Days

Kolach Days is Verdigre’s Czech festival, held over a weekend in mid-June, and the village calls itself the Kolach Capital of the World. It has been run by the Verdigre Improvement Club since about 1969; 2025 was the 57th. The weekend takes in a Bull-A-Rama at the baseball diamond, a street dance at Chalupnik Park, a 5K whose entry fee includes kolaches, a tractor drive out of the Verdigre stockyards, turtle races at the St. Wenceslaus church park where only box and painted turtles may be raced, a coin dig, duck races, a volunteer fire department rib cookoff, a stein holding contest and the alumni banquet at the ZCBJ Hall. Sunday brings the Polka Mass at St. Wenceslaus with all faiths welcome, the Grand Parade, a kolach eating contest on Main Street with no entry fee, and the Royal Ball crowning the king and queen.
