The Sheldon Museum of Art at 451 N. 12th St. on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's City Campus is housed in a building designed by Philip Johnson and completed in 1963. Its collection of roughly 12,000 to 13,000 works combines the holdings of the university and the Sheldon Art Association, whose roots go back to the Haydon Art Club, founded in 1888. The Sheldon's sculpture garden, opened in 1970, displays more than 30 monumental sculptures across campus.
