Description

Arbor Lodge State Historical Park in Nebraska City preserves the former home of J. Sterling Morton, founder of Arbor Day and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture under President Cleveland. The elegant 52-room neocolonial mansion is furnished with period antiques and open for guided tours. The surrounding 65-acre grounds include formal Italian terraced gardens, a nature trail through old-growth forest, and the original carriage house. The park hosts the annual Arbor Day celebration each April. Nebraska City is the birthplace of Arbor Day in 1872. A Nebraska State Park Entry Permit is required for grounds access.
