Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area known as Big Mac is Nebraska's largest reservoir with over 30,000 surface acres of water and 105 miles of sandy shoreline near Ogallala in Keith County. The lake is renowned for world-class fishing for walleye, white bass, striped bass, and rainbow trout. The area offers extensive boating, jet skiing, windsurfing, swimming on expansive white-sand beaches, and camping on both the north and south shores. The adjacent Lake Ogallala provides calmer water and excellent birding. A Nebraska State Park Entry Permit is required.
