The Washington County weed superintendent is the county’s noxious weed control authority, based at 8845 Berry Hill Road in Blair. Nebraska law requires every county to have one. The office inspects land for the weeds on the state noxious list — musk and Canada thistle, leafy spurge, phragmites, knapweed and the rest — and can require a landowner to control them, doing the work and billing for it if a notice is ignored. It is also the office to ring if you want to know what is spreading in your area, what to spray and when, or who is responsible for a roadside. The county publishes only a post office box; this is the road department shop, which shares the phone number, so confirm before making a special trip.
